Some things bear a quick mention, just because everyone knows about them anyway – the SkyWheel is great! If you like Ferris wheels you will not be disappointed and the same goes forth Strand and the Boardwalk. The Family Kingdom Amusement Park also fits into this category, and is a good way to spend an afternoon, especially with the younger kids!
The Children’s Museum of South Carolina is also a great place for kids, with hundreds of interactive exhibits that will engage them unlike any other museum they have been in!
Mt. Atlanticus is one of the best mini golf courses no matter where you go, and is great for all ages – there is just something about mini golf, it is impossible not to enjoy it. Ripley’s Mirror Maze and the Backstage Mirror Maze are both hi-tech classic twists on the old house of mirrors, and are also a great activity that anyone will enjoy!
There are plenty of natural divisions as well – from private parks and preserves like Brookgreen Gardens, and Alligator Adventures offers an exciting break from the boardwalk.
There are also state and national parks like Myrtle Beach State Park, Huntington State Park and the reserves and wild areas around Winyah Bay, just a few minutes from the heart of Myrtle. Just a few miles north of the state line is the Bird Island State Reserve.
The best thing about all these areas is that they are just a few minutes’ drive away from the regular tourist activities that make Myrtle Beach so great, but there are many layers to Myrtle Beach.
In music, two of the biggest acts have to be the Carolina Opry and the Legends in Concert, but the Bowery always has great bands, and the city has festivals throughout the year. In late April the Blues and Jazz Festival. The String Serenade will also be scheduled – this will include selections by Handle, Tchaikovsky, Barber and more.
For the art lover, and a great excuse to get out of the sun for a while is the Franklin G Burroughs – Simeon B Chapin Art Museum, and small but excellent selection of art they also have events and classes all year!
No matter what your personal favorites are, the big draw in Myrtle Beach is the beach. That is why everyone comes, and why this town has built itself up into a vacation paradise – in fact, it is the second most visited vacation destination in the US!
It is easy to become too busy no matter where you go on vacation – be sure and leave plenty of time for the beach or laying by the pool, and take things easy. This is your vacation, after all, and it is the one time of year that you should get to pamper yourself and grow closer with your family.
