Purchasing Your Daughters First Bike

Just want to send out this quick blogpost about my recent experience purchasing a bike for my 5 year old daughter as I feel it may be of help to some of you.
For many of you thinking of getting your daughter in to learning how to ride their first bike you may be wondering at what age would be best for them to start.
I personally waited until she was 5 because speaking from experience with my other children, before this time your child doesn’t have sufficient strength and development in their legs to be able to propell a bike forward for any length of time and is very likely to give up or even start crying out of frustration if they attemp to ride a bike before this age.
I actually enjoy cycling myself and wanted to get my daughter in to cycling so that I could enjoy doing this with her on our local disused railway line which is now a national cycling route and bridal-way.
Obviously it’s quite a big event purchasing your childs first bike. It usually ends up being an enduring memory for your child and almost everybody remembers when they had their first bike and the feeling of excitement they had.
One of the things I had to establish as my daughter had just turned 5 was the correct bike size that I needed. I found out that for sizing a childs bike it all goes off wheel sizes. For a 5 year old girl I would need a 16 Inch wheel bike. This would typically last until my daughter until she was 7 years old.

16 Inch Girls Bike – Doing Your Research

In the process of doing my research I discovered that I could save a significant amount by purchasing a bike online as opposed to going to my high street. I also discovered that the process of assembling a childs bike is extremely straight forward as their are usually no fancy brakes or gearing systems to setup. All that is actually required is the handlebars inserting in to the frame and tightening, the rear seat inserting into the frame and tightening and the front wheel attaching to the forks, pedals attaching, pump up the tires and you good to go. Quite simple for most people and usually all the tools you need are included with the bike anyway.
After establishing that I wanted to purchase online I just needed a good guide to the best girls bikes available in the UK as obviously I wanted my daughter to be happy. After researching the internet I found this site which only reviews the best 16 Inch girls bikes in the UK. They told me the good the bad and what they thought overall of the different girls bikes available. So to help you out and maybe save you some valuable time here is the link to the 16 Inch girls bike site.
And for those of you that are wondering which one I eventually went with. It was the Hello Kitty bike which is also reviewed on that site.
